Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Vol.1

_ I still remember the first time I heard about Jill Scott and her album. I was visiting family and friends in Chicago and a friend was raving about Jill Scott and her album. He let me borrow it just so I could hear it. I played about five seconds of each of the first five tracks and decided that I had to visit the neighborhood music store and secure my own copy. The rest is history. What can I say that 465 other reviewers haven't said already???? I don't know but I'll take the chance of repeating something that someone has already said -- this album is off the hook! It is already a classic in my eyes because it is what we call "timeless". Real grooves and real songs, along with killer basslines and chords, and the phattest beats! This album has all that Philly soul that was prevalent in the Philly International days (could it be possible that Hidden Beach is carrying the Philly Int. torch???) All that's left for me to say is that this album (and the way that I ended up making the purchase) proves that sometimes the artist's merit is more in the performance versus radio and video hype. This album is indeed a breath of fresh air and will be treasured forever!
