"This mix was virtually compiled at the 'eleventh hour'!"
“Perfect Ten” was easily my most enjoyable project since the very first Soul Revival mix. My feeling at the time was that I couldn’t possibly record another mix in the Soul Revival series, since I had reached a peak; I didn’t want to risk a “letdown”. The theme for each disc became very evident. The Soul Disc featured a smooth sound with subtle vocals and a low melodic range. The Revival Disc, however, featured more traditional vocal arrangements with emphasis on harmonies and a high range. The completed project was just a larger representation of the continuous theme of the mix series.
As I considered the mix for volume eleven it became apparent that instead of ending one era I could begin a new one. Soul Revival as a mix series could evolve. Now, each new Soul Revival mix could be a double-set, the first mix being the Soul Disc and the second mix being the Revival Disc. This new concept would enable me to fully expand my soulful range.
