August 2005 – RIDING THE RHYTHM

The location was Seville Quarter in Pensacola, FL and the main attraction was Tortured Soul, a three-person House Music band from New York. I was concerned that the night would be cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina’s extensive reach into the Florida Panhandle. Pensacola only received minimal damage so the show went on as scheduled. I was fortunate enough to be the DJ that would lead into the band’s act. I was informed that after I played the last record of my set the band would come in right afterwards. I really had NO idea what was in store, but decided to play things by ear and get ready to cue the band. The last record I played was “Closer than Close” by Rosie Gaines, and it was the Frankie Knuckles remix. As the record was playing, so was the band! They literally matched the melody and the tempo to perfection. It was nearly impossible to tell when my record ended and the band began! The band then played non-stop for an hour after they began – with perfect segues! They were”riding the rhythm”!
